We already knew the car park of Wallhorner Mähder from our drive to the Sajat hut but this time it was a little more difficult to get a parking space. From here many different routes start. An ascent route of 1000 meters to the Bonn - Matreier Hütte is waiting for us. The path, which is not that steep in the beginning, starts in the forest. After 45 minutes we reach the Niljoch Hütte. The name refers to the altitude because it is rather a restaurant than a hut. Anyway, it is well situated with a breathtaking view over the Virgental. The actual ascent to the Bonn - Matreier Hütte starts here.

The path leads to the Niltal in direction of the Stühleralm, where a young family with children spends the summer with the cattle. The path gets steeper and we approach the end of the Niltal. The path bends and then runs between rocks. Noe we can finally see the hut. As we reach it it is very quiet there. Normally the hut is not visited so often as it rather is a stopping place on the way to the higher Venediger.
